Someone needs to tell Wes Welker to watch the hell out:
Whenever these huge hits take place on television, I always imagine the families of people like Wes Welker watching the 31 instant replays of their loved one get hit ridiculously hard…and laugh.
There have been some unbelievably hard hits this year in both college and NFL football. It seems that all those steroid masking agents have finally allowed our favorite gridiron gladiators to juice with impunity. (With all the steroids flying around, pretty soon these guys will start needing these prenatal vitamins.) Either that, or a 6′5″ 265 pound human body is supposed to run a 4.5 second 40. I’ll let you decide.
With that off my chest, let’s look at the 15 most bone crunching hits in the NFL and college this season:
15. Ike Hilliard Knocked out Against the Seahawks:
14. Anquan Boldin and his Broken Face:
13. Cedric Griffin on Billy Miller
2. Adrian Wilson’s helmet meets Trent Edwards Face
11. Jo-Lonn Dunbar on a Reggie Bush Punt Return:
10. Go Low Al Harris!!
9. Air Bradford (Not the biggest hit, but he is in the air for around 30 seconds)
8. Justin Fargas Meets Bernard Pollard
7. Darrell Reid on Kick Coverage: (It has been brought to my attention by an astute reader that this hit is not from 2008. He is correct, the Colts did play the Titans on Monday night this year, but this hit did not occur in that game. Still, this is an unbelievable hit that I’ll probably leave on the list. I am taking suggestions for a new #7, to be named 7A, leave your selections in the comments)
Let’s Trot this one out as 7A for the time being. I don’t know how Lewis could, in good conscience, do this to a Solidier.
Â
6. Jerrod Power on Andrew Hatch
5. Kevin Barnes makes a reciever puke: (Near the end of the video)
4. Brandon Jacobs meets LaRon Landry:
3. Angus Quigley knocks out a Texas Defender:
2. Hines Ward on Keith Rivers:
If you don’t believe this guy is juicing, you are living in a fantasy world:

Did I miss any good ones?

Are you kidding me, there was hardly a hit on #1. Are you a fan of one of those teams? Seriously, is this a joke?
Keith Davis from the Cowboys hit someone so hard he lost vision in his eye for a couple of plays and the guy he hit was wrecked. If you watch it, Keith Davis rips off his helmet and freaks out cuz he cant see.
the bradford one was pretty funny to see live
Sheldon Brown’s hit on Stephen Jackson was pretty good.
Yeah you actually missed a couple. The hit on the special teams guy in the Miami vs. north Carolina one is probably the best hit of the year and would easily be number one and any list. Another big one was the his Spencer Larsen of the Denver Broncos Put on the Chiefs return man. The guy lost his freaking helmet he got nailed so hard. Seriously though I can’t believe you missed the north carolina one. That is easily the hit of the year in any sport.
the ray lewis hit on kellen winslow jr should be on here
How about Brian Dawkins hit on Reggie Bush…..Or MJD on Merriman.
this is sad. you should go back to taco bell and see if you can still get your job back. terrible choices, terrible, you must be a colts fan….
im sure they picked the Lsu game as number 1 just because the referee was the one who made the hit
You put the Kevin Barnes hit on here, I saw that hit live and that’s what instantly came to mind when biggest hits of the year are mentioned. Nice to see it made the list.
And to the guy above who asked why the MJD hit on Merriman isn’t on here, it’s because the hits are only from this year, that hit was last year.
You missed the hit Shonn Greene laid on the Purdue safety en route to a TD. He absolutely trucks the poor guy, then looks at him on the ground as he goes by. Classic stuff.

2:46 mark. Good times.
Check out the hit Jeff Garcia took 2 weeks ago. And he got up and kept playing!
ummm….Sheldon Brown on SJax?
The Thursday night game between the Bengals and Steelers when Santonio Holmes was laid out by Chris Crocker was a nasty hit as it was made obvious when Homes fell back down after trying to stand up.
How about Eric Berry crushing Knoshown Moreno….He didn’t jump up after that play. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZKTaC9-jDQ
Ray lewis hit on Winslow needs to be on there!
Maybe is can replace #7 because that hit is not even from this YEAR… Its from the final game of the 2007 season Colts vs Titans….
you missed the hit brett warren but on darius heyward-bey in the virginia tech – maryland game.
Friday Night Lights game, Midland Lee @ Odessa Permian

There was a hit by Quentin Coryatt of Texas A&M on a TCU receiver back in the late 80’s or early 90’s. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lItHWlYpRRM Knocked him out cold and broke his jaw.
It’s still just referred to as “The Hit” in Aggieland.
Gophers/Badgers…broke the logo off from the guys helmet.

hey big hit in tennessee vs alabama. that kid did a 360 in the air…me and my buddy laughed at that for hours
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMI4qj0pj3E
here is where the hit is
How about that hit on me in the Chicago game, it was huge and made me cry for 10 minutes. It was worse than when that wall hit me and hurt my neck.
The joke is that it was a referee that laid on the hit. Get it? It’s funny because referees are meant to officiate, not stop touch downs. Retard.
Number 15 was a two-for-one hit. Leroy Hill knocked out both Hilliard and Lofa Tatupu.
W&M at Towson – this is on the first offensive series of the game, little screen/swing out to a reciever that a cornerback sniffs out rather well.

The kid making the hit is David Caldwell.
Quan Cosby of Texas blocks Lendy Holmes in TX-OU game.

“…you must be a colts fan…”- best line ever! Says it all, doesn’t it?
BTW, anybody know where I could see the hit Ed McCaffrey took in the MNF game on 9/10/01? Never been able to find it…
Frerotte wasn’t really hurt during the Chicago game, it was a late hit (more like a shove) and he playacted in the hopes of getting a late hit penalty.
I’d like to see a biggest hits of all time list.
Most painful hit I remember was by Joey Browner, sometime in the mid-eighties. The hit wasn’t that hard but whoever it was got his ankle broken, his big toe touched the back of his calf. ouch.

Love the hits, but anytime I see I helmet to helmet that knocks someone out classified as a “hard hit” I get a bit frustrated. It takes no ability to headbut someone into a knockout (or to break someone’s jaw in Hines Ward’s case). Show me impact that is dependent upon explosion and power not the crown of your helmet.

Check out TCU vrs SMU HELMETLESS hit made by Tanner Brock to clear way for 71 yard punt return, he’s still mad cause they wont give him back his helmet to play.
