Barkley Set to Re-Join TNT after the All-Star Break, We Plead with Ted Turner to Keep Gary Payton and Chris Webber

The NBA on TNT is set to welcome Sir Charles back after the All-Star break and most fans couldn’t be happier. While I love Chuck, I’m kind of getting sweet on Gary Payton and Chris Webber.

The Glove mercilessly makes fun of Kenny Smith and Chris Webber and speaks every word at around 100 decibels.  Most of the time its sort of hard to understand exactly what Gary is saying because he’s yelling over someone else or comparing Chris and Kenny to some blatantly homo-erotic half-time show clip that gets spliced in between commercials.

If Foghorn Leghorn was an NBA All-Star, he’d sound a lot like Gary.  I think fans find it entertaining when the analysts don’t even talk about basketball and Gary might do that more than anyone I’ve ever seen on an NBA broadcast.  I’m just not sure I care what Jon Barry has to say about the Spurs motion offense.  At some point, analysis just gets boring. That’s why Charles and Gary, regardless of how ridiculous they are, keep people watching.

Let’s take a look at some of Gary’s best moments at the analyst desk thus far:

Gary: “Amare should start over Duncan in the All-Star Game.”

Other Guys: “Why?”

Gary: “Amare bringing it every night. I’ve watched a lot of Phoenix this year, I haven’t watched much of San Antonio.

Pretty hilarious that Gary makes fun of Rondo for getting a ring on a really good team when Wade an Shaq had to drag his carcass up and down the floor for a championship.

Hopefully, TNT constructs a super set will allow all five of these guys to share a set.  I’m also interested to see if Gary or Chris make fun of Chuck for his alleged BJs like Chuck used to make fun of everyone else.  It should make for great TV.
