Lou Holtz was down right impressive this weekend. No, he didn’t cure his inability to pronounce words that start with S. But he did rattle off one of the best speeches I have ever heard about anything. His pep talk segments on College Gameday have become one of the highlight of my Saturday. In case you were wondering, yes, my life is that pathetic.
Lou was equally impressive when he picked Notre Dame to beat UCLA this weekend. What foresight, what intuition. How could he have possibly seen this coming? Well, this pick wasn’t that impressive when you realize that Lou has picked Notre Dame to win every game this season. So, by percentage, Lou is picking at about a 17 percent clip, which coincides with the percentage of the time that Lou’s pep talks make any sense.
While they may not make sense all the time, these are unbelievable nonetheless. I scoured the internet and found four of Lou’s pep talks. Enjoy, and if you can find the fifth one, send the link my way and I’ll post it:
Pep talk to Michigan before their game against Oregon (Result – Michigan 39 Oregon – 7 )
Pep talk to Penn State before their game against Michigan ( Result Michigan -14, PSU – 9)
Pep talk to South Florida before their game against West Virgina (South Florida – 21, West Virginia – 13)
Pep talk to Florida before their game this weekend against LSU (Result: LSU -28 Florida -24)
By the way, I hate to poo-poo the effectiveness of these speeches, but the teams that Lou attempted to fire up are 1-3. That being said, I refuse to place any blame on Lou after Florida
