The NHL season is in full swing and as much as I try to watch the game, it still comes off as enjoyable as having your very religious teenage girlfriend find out she is pregnant. (Sorry Gary, I tried) As I dozed off in the middle of the second period, I began to think about more entertaining sporting contests than the garbage I was watching. My thoughts immediately turned to Tony Danza sliding into home in the opening credits of “Who’s the Boss?” Sure, that might say a lot about me, but it probably says the exact same thing about you, because you remember the exact same scene I do. In honor of the TD, I have put together a list of the some of the more entertaining athletic competitions on the silver screen. Here they are, and for you enjoyment, and mine, we lead off with Big Tone.
Who’s the Boss- Opening Credits
Tony goes Pete Rose on us at about the 20 second mark. Haven’t seen someone that out at home since Matt Holiday.
Fresh Prince of Bellaire- The Fresh Prince vs. Isiah Thomas
After Will beats Zeke in a game of one-on-one, Thomas calls him a “Black Bitch” and is forced to pay him millions of dollars as ruled on by Judge Phillip Banks
Saved by the Bell- Bayside Wrestling
I haven’t seen anything gayer then AC Slater wrestling another man in tights since…..I saw AC Slater Dancing with the Stars on ABC
The Simpsons- What I wish Michigan’s kicker would do one time (German really does it justice)
South Park- Drunk Dad at little league games
This brought back a lot of memories from when I use to play baseball growing up. I would give my dad a hug, but he’s not allowed within 100 yards of me.
Fresh Prince of Bellaire- Will vs Special Olympics
Is it that hard to shoot a bball game for a tv show? There is a similar episode of Family Matters where Urkel comes in to save the day, and once again the opposing team is missing shots by 10 feet and running into each other. The opposing teams shot at the :43 second mark is absolutely priceless.
The Office- Basketball Game
The Fun Run 5K this season is equally hilarious to this first season episode. Kevin makes like 15 jumpers in a row in the deleted scenes.
