Best/Worst Ticket Prices in Sports

Written by | Visited 159 times, 3 so far today

The New York Knicks annually charge some of the highest ticket prices in sports. This year is no exception as they check in at second most expensive in the NBA. Not only are the Knicks expensive, but they are also god-awful. A 28 point loss to 7-13 Philadelphia put the Knicks at 6-13. In honor of the Knicks and their terrible ratio of price/goodness-of-team, we have put together the best and worst deals in sports this year based on current records and included average ticket prices.

NFL

Best – Jacksonville – $40.16 – Jacksonville currently sits at 9-4 and in great shape to grab a wild-card spot in the AFC. Their ticket price ranks 31 among NFL teams and they actually lowered ticket prices following a playoff appearance in 2005. Oh yeah, and good looking the cheerleaders add even more value.

n

Worst – NY Jets – $71.00 – Not only do you have to go to New Jersey to watch this 3-10 football team, you have to pay over 70 dollars to do it, which ranks third among NFL teams.

n

NBA

Best – Golden State – $27.69 – Golden State has the lowest average price per ticket in the NBA by just under five dollars. They are also one of the most exciting teams to watch in the NBA. Add those two factors to the chances you might get to throw a punch at Stephen Jackson if you play your cards right and you have the best value in the NBA.

n

Worst – Sacramento – $59.80 – You can either pay 28 per ticket to watch a good Golden State team, or pay 60 a ticket to watch a bad Sacramento team and attempt to decide who is uglier between Kevin Martin and John Salmons. (There is no wrong answer)

n

MLB

Best – Detroit Tigers – $18.48 – The Tigers’ average ticket price is the 20th most expensive in baseball for a top 5-7 team in MLB. With the addition of Cabrera, and the additional tar in Jim Leyland’s lungs the Tigers have the most potent line-up/lung cancer combination in baseball

Worst – Chicago Cubs – $34.30 – The Chicago Cubs have the second highest ticket prices for arguably the worst franchise in the history of sports. While I can appreciate the fact that they have a decent baseball team right now, they raised their ticket prices 7 percent going into 2007 coming off a 96 loss season.

n

NHL

Best – Pittsburgh Penguins – $36.61- The NHL’s ticket prices remain surprisingly expensive for sport that very few non-Canucks care about. At the same time, with Sidney Crosby, Jordan Staal and Evgeni Malkin, the Penguins are one of the most exciting teams to watch in a nearly unwatchable sport. (sick move at the end of the video)

Worst – Edmonton Oilers – $51.76 – The Oilers are completely exploiting the fact that there is hardly anything exciting to do in Edmonton (except that huge wall with the waterpark, shown below) They are bilking the good people of Alberta out of their hard earned money (sixth most expensive ticket in NHL) to watch a last place Oilers squad.

n

God that looks like a fun mall.
