Is Ohio State Ashamed of Their Football Players’ Majors?

Written by | Visited 385 times, 5 so far today

As you watched the National Championship game this evening, your thoughts, like mine, were undoubtably drawn to the student portion of the student-athletes on the field. In fact, I didn’t watch much of the game, rather I was very concerned that both teams may have missed class on Monday.

Of course, just because these student-athletes missed one day of class does not mean that they are not committed to their education. For instance, LSU WR Early Doucet is a sports studies major, which I assume means that he watches film and reads his playbook. Let’s take a look at some of the other academic all-stars in this years’ national championship game.

Ohio State

All you need to do is go to Ohio State’s athletic website and we should be able to find the majors of all of Ohio State’s stars. Wait…this is interesting. Ohio State does not list the majors of any of their football players on their website. Interestingly enough, they don’t list any of the majors of their men’s basketball players either. However, they do list the majors of others player on every other team on their university website. Are they ashamed? Just crazy, I can’t imagine why they would leave the majors of the players in sports that typically graduate players at the lowest rates off the website. For the sake of this article lets assume that Vernon Gholston majors in being a hulking man-beast and James Laurinaitis majors in the “The Doomsday Device,” which was the Road Warriors’ inishing move.

On to LSU, who actually puts their majors on their website and other great facts that I couldn’t live without.

Trindon Holiday: General Studies
Matt Flynn: Interdisciplinary Studies
Glenn Dorsey: Interdiscplinary Studies
Glenn Steltz: Management
Jonathon Zenon: Sports Studies – Has his own horse and spends his spare time horseback riding
Chevis Jackson – Sociology – Collects football cards
Keiland Williams – Mass Communication
Jacob Hester: Sports Studies
Josh McManus: Communication Studies
Curtis Taylor: Sports Studies
Chad Banieki: Electrical Engineering
Charles Scott: General Business
Luke Sanders: Management
Carnell Stewart: Communication Studies
Mit Cole: Finance (2005, 2006 SEC Academic Honor Roll)
Herman Johson: Sports Studies – Weighed 15 pounds, 14 ounces at birth
Rahim Alem: African-American Studies
Keith Zinger: Interdisciplinary Studies (2005, 2006 SEC Academic Honor Roll)
Charles Alexander: Communications and Corrections
Glenn Dorsey: Interdisciplinary Studies
Marlon Favorite: Interdisciplinary Studies – Best Rapper on the team. Has performed at halftime of men’s and women’s basketball games.
Tyson Jackson – Communications – Aspires to be a teacher (huh?)
Ali Highsmith – Communications

Lots and lots of interdiscplinary studies majors on the squad. I assume that interdiscplinary studies is similar to a general studies degree. General business? Sports Studies? Hopefully football works out because you will never get a job otherwise, and I should know I am a sports management major. That degree qualifies me to manage a roller skaing rink, or the concession stand at a ice rink. Thus far, I have achieved neither of these goals. I only found one engineer and no pre-med students.

I really want to know what kind of majors are available at Ohio State if they refuse to list them on the site. LSU isn’t afraid to list their majors even when 25 percent of the team majors in something that may or may not involve discipline or studying. God bless the student athlete.
