Any avid SI or ESPN reader has probably read about how Rudy Gay has commissioned youtube patrons to give him ideas on creative dunks that he could use in Saturday nights’ Slam Dunk Contest. This story made news probably a week ago, yet no one has checked in on the responses. Fear not blogosphere, investigative journalism (read: posting clips from youtube) is one of our specialties at The AngryT.
When I typed in “Rudy Gay Slam Dunk Promotion,” there were only about 80 results. Meaning that this promotion was not well received, or that people who know how to dunk don’t know how to operate a camera, video tape a dunk, and then transfer that video over to youtube (or they don’t care enough to do the work). Despite the small number of responses, there were some very good videos without some very sick dunks. Here are the best responses to Rudy Gay’s challenge.
TDub – A 5’9” man who says he “is known to be one of the best dunkers in the world.” In my top 1000 dunk rating chart, he sits just behind former high flier Mark West at 897.
Team Flight Brothers – A video response to Rudy by a group of dunkers calling themselves “Team Flight Brothers,” who I assume are distant relatives of Orville Wright
Werm – Apparently Werm is another member of Team Flight Brothers. Here is his response:
Flying101 – Some ideas from a “dunking team,” called Flying101:
Thirst123 – Here are some disgusting dunks from a guy named Thrist123
James White – Here is a dunk from James “Flight” White that fans think would win Rudy the championship (from the free-throw line through the legs)
McNashty07 – Although it looks the this guy almost kills himself, I think this dunk:
Gerald Green – Gerald has an idea for Rudy, although I am not too impressed:
The Baltimore Windmill – If you could pull this one off, it would be pretty impressive as well:
Well Rudy, those are the best of your responses on youtube. Personally, I go with the last one, its got two great names, “The Baltimore Windmill,” and “The Rude Awakening.” You could even change “rude” to Rudy and get some brand recognition, and maybe a W.
