Freshman are making waves on college football fields across the country. From A.J. Green to Jacquizz Rodgers, kids fresh out of high school are becoming impact players. Let’s take a look at this year’s most impressive newcomers:
A.J. Green – WR – Georgia - Green reminds me a lot of Randy Moss in terms of his size the fluidity with which he runs and catches the ball.
Oh and this might be the best catch ever:
Jacquizz Rodgers – RB – Oregon State - Jacquizz’s coming out party probably spoiled USC’s national championship hopes. When he isn’t running around defenders, he has no trouble running over them, even though he only stands 5′6″.
Julio Jones – WR -Alabama - Another big, fluid athlete with Randy Moss size. Julio Jones has quickly become John Parker Wilson’s favorite target.
Sam McGuffie – RB – Michigan – McGuffie’s emergence has been one of the few bright spots during Michigan’s 2-3 start.
Terrell Pryor – QB – Ohio State – Shockingly, Pryor has overtaken Todd Boeckman as the starter in Columbus. Expect the Terrelle Pryor – Vince Young comments to be used another 14 million times over the next few years.
Jeffrey Demps – RB – Florida – This young man is fast. So fast, in fact, that he ran in the Olympics trials in the 100m. He is second on the team in rushing yards despite only carrying the ball 13 times so far this season.
(He is the guy that wins by 15 meters)
Michael Floyd – WR – Notre Dame – Floyd’s back-to-back 100 yard games have put this 5-star high school prospect on the national radar.
As far as visual evidence of Floyd’s talent goes, Notre Dame refuses to release any video or pictures of Michael during a game. Here’s how he looking in high school:
Vic Anderson – RB – Louisville – The redshirt freshman is averaging 6.9 yards per carry and currently ranks 5th in the Big East in rushing.

Robert Griffin – QB – Baylor - The dual threat QB leads Baylor in rushing and passing. Almost more impressive for a freshman QB are his 7 TDs against 0 INTs through 5 games.
Darren Evans – RB – Virginia Tech – The 2007 EA Sports National Player of the Year has is the key to potent Virginia Tech ground attack.
(More high school highlights because the media refuses to photograph Darren Evans)
Cody Johnson – RB – Texas – Johnson has shared the feature back duties with Vondrell Davis thus far. At 5′11 and 255 pounds, Johnson has taken the majority of the goal line carries and has racked up six rushing TDs through six games.
There is also no video on Cody Johnson. But thanks to this profile on Texas’ website, I know that Cody loves One Tree Hill and has a dog, named “Dog.”
Here is a little love for the defensive side of the football:
Sean Baker – DB – Ball State – Sean is tied for the NCAA lead in interceptions with four. He was also named national defensive player of the week after a three INT performance against Akron.
Travis Jackson – LB – Oklahoma – The redshirt freshman is second on the team in tackles, leads the team in sacks and is tied for the team lead in interceptions.
(and he injured Dustin Grutza on this play)

And finally, lets dish out some special team love:
Ross Evans – K – TCU – Ross Evans is probably the most devastating freshman kicker in the history of football. His bionic legs is 9/10 on field goals this year with a long of 50 yards.
Here he is plying his trade in high school:
