Congratulations to Chicago Bulls. The Worst 25 #1 Songs Of All-Time Should Make You Feel Better When You Inevitably Mess This Pick Up

Written by admin | Visited 644 times, 15 so far today |

Congratulations to the Chicago Bulls and their fans for winning the NBA lottery this evening and securing the #1 pick in June’s NBA Draft. Bulls’ fans can only hope that their number one pick contributes as much to the franchise as these recent draft picks:

2006 – LaMarcus Aldridge – Immediately shipped to Portland
2002- Jay Williams – Injured, will never play again
2001 – Eddie Curry – Ate a lot, will never play well again
2000 – Marcus Fizer – Is only good with Jamaal Tinsley
2000 – Dalibor Bagaric – Too European to be successful
1999 – Elton Brand – Sent packing as soon as it was recognized he had any talent

Bulls fans will notice that I left all of their good draft picks off this list, which isn’t surprising, because I am an irrational hater.

Do not fret Chicago Bulls, you aren’t the first group of people to make bad decision about who should be #1.  In fact, even the collective wisdom of the American people is off from time to time.  We have put together our list of the worst #1 songs of all time.  There are some god-awful songs on this list, enjoy:

Top 5 Freshman Championship Game Performances

Written by admin | Visited 332 times, 4 so far today |

In spite of one very important missed free throw, Derrick Rose put on a show in the National Championship game on Monday.  He scored 18 points, dished out 8 assists, and grabbed six boards.  If not for a Mario Chalmers fade away three pointer, Derrick Rose would have been your Final Four MOP. Even in a loss, it was one of the best freshman performances in the history of the NCAA Championship game.  Below, he take a look at the Top Five Freshman performances in the NCAA Championship game.

5. Arnie Farran – Utah – 1944 Championship –  Ferrin 22 points in a 42-40 victory over Dartmouth.  Ferrin, along with Carmelo Anthony and Pervis Ellison, is the one of three freshman to ever be named Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. (#22 is Ferrin)

n

4. Mike Bibby – Arizona – 1997 Championship – Bibby had 19 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals in Arizona’s national championship game win over Kentucky.

n

3. Greg Oden – Ohio State -2007 Championship –  Greg Oden had 25 points, 12 rebounds in a losing effort in last years’ championship game.

n

2. Carmelo Anthony –  Syracuse -2003 Championship –  Melo’ had 20 points, 10 rebounds in a championship game win over the Kirk Hinrich and Nick Collison led Kansas Jayhawks.

n

1. Pervis Ellison – 1986 Championship – “Never Nervous” had a dominant 25 points, 11 rebounds, 2 steal performance in a championship game win over Johnny Dawkins and the Duke Blue Devils.

n
Well, we can look forward to seeing Derrick Rose in a Memphis Grizzlies uniform next year.  Watch up Western Conference central division, here come Juan Carlos Navarro, Darko Milicic and Derrick Rose. That kind of three headed monster would make Bill Wennington, Bill Cartwright, and Luc Longley proud.

The Best Freshman Class Ever?

Written by admin | Visited 522 times, 10 so far today |

p>By no means is Michael Beasley playing in anonymity.  His Kansas State Wildcats have been featured on national television several times and most avid sports fans know his name by this point.  With that being said, he is still not getting the credit that his numbers deserve, and neither is the rest of this crop of unbelievable freshman.

First of all, take a look at Beasley’s stats so far this season:

By my recollection, there was another young gentlemen last season who was putting up similar numbers…what was his name again…oh that’s right, Kevin Durant.  Let’s take a look at his numbers from last year:

Beasley’s number compare very favorably to the reigning Naismith award winner.  I was surprised to see that his three point percentage was actually better than Durant’s.

Beasley leads the nation in rebounding by almost a full board and he is fifth in the country in scoring. He has also led this team to an 8-2 conference record which puts them only a half game out of first place in the Big 12.  Kansas State will have a chance to grab a share of that lead when the take on Nebraska this evening.
Beasley is one of several freshman lottery picks waiting to happen. According to NBADraft.net (fantastic website) , six of the first seven picks in the 2008 NBA Draft will be from the freshman class of 2007-2008.  They also prognosticate that 11 of the first 21 picks will be freshman. Let’s take a look at some of the big names:

Remember Chris Anstey?

This may be the greatest freshman class in the history of college basketball.  Imagine if each of these players go goes pro, and like NBA Draft says, gets drafted in the first round.  11 Freshman drafted in the first round would be a record (rivaled only by the 2004 class), although going strictly by that logic to determine the best class ever can get tricky, because of the NBA’s rule that players must be one year removed from high school before they can enter the draft. Invariably, without that rule in place, some players would have decided to go college, rather than declare for the draft, so the 11 first rounders could have been broken up.  Also, several of these freshman may choose to come back to school for their sophomore seasons and not to declare for the 2008 Draft. In any event, very few classes in history have had 11 NBA ready freshman.
Whether  7, 9 or 11 players from the class of 2007 ends up declaring for the draft, there is no doubt that this group of young athletes is right up there with the best of the best classes from years’ past.

If I were going to streak, this is how I would do it. It takes a visionary, nay, a hero, to streak a horse race. It looks like he finishes sixth, but I give him a gold medal for effort, simply because he was running against animals with twice as many legs as he has. Oh, and yes, he is very naked
